Jordan Balderas is a Chicago-based commercial photographer and director of photography specialising in tabletop food, beverage and product. Most of the job comes down to one problem: making a physical thing — glass, liquid, surface — behave on camera the way it behaves in someone’s hand.

His specialism is motion-control cinematography, which means a move can be repeated exactly, take after take, so stills and motion come off the same set with the same light. He works from storyboards and 3D renders before anyone lights a set, so an art director knows what they are getting before the day.

He is a Senior Photographer at Publicis Production, where he has shot for Jim Beam, Miller and Dunkin among others. When he is not behind a camera he is exploring the world’s best bars and the craft of fine whisky. Need a whiskey recommendation? Just ask.
